Intellectual disability , also known as General Learning Disability (in the United Kingdom) and formerly mental retardation (in the United States) is a generalized neurodevelopment disorder characterized by significant impairment in intellectual and adaptive functioning  that is first apparent during childhood.

People with intellectual disabilities often find it very hard to get a job. Most of them do not work, and those who do often do not get a fair salary. Job is very important for persons  with intellectual disabilities. It  helps them become more independent. When they earn their own money, they can take care of themselves and make choices about their lives. This boosts their confidence and self-esteem.

Secondly ,  allows them to make friends. Being in a job means interacting with coworkers and participating in team activities, which can create a sense of belonging and community. Social connections are important for emotional well-being.

Third, work  helps individuals  improve and learn new skills. By  gaining experience in different tasks,  make them more valuable in the job market. This learning process is not only beneficial for their careers but also helps them feel accomplished. In addition,  regular work schedule can provide routine, which is often comforting and helps reduce anxiety. This structure is important for mental health and stability.

Moreover, work gives people a sense of purpose. When they contribute to a team or complete tasks, they feel valued and important. This feeling of purpose can greatly enhance their overall happiness and satisfaction in life.

Finally, when individuals with intellectual disabilities work, they contribute to society and the economy. Their participation helps challenge stereotypes and promotes understanding and inclusion.
