SPECIAL EDUCATION AND ITS OBJECTIVES : Dr Nadeem Ghayas

July 6, 2024

Special Education’s ultimate objective is to help students with unique challenges that hinder their ability to learn in a traditional classroom setting. These challenges may result from a variety of issues such as mental health disorders, emotional disturbances, communication barriers, or physical disabilities. The goal of Special Education is to give each student the opportunity to achieve his/her maximum potential through individualized learning settings and support systems.

One of the main reasons for the existence of Special Education is inclusion. According to principles of inclusive education, all children have the right to a quality education in a nurturing environment regardless of their abilities or disabilities.

Special Education ensures that no student is left behind and will have the opportunity to engage in their community, through provision of specially designed instruction and resources.

In addition to ensuring students are able to engage in their community, Special Education also provides instruction tailored to the individual learning needs of students who would benefit from alternative instructional strategies or assistive technologies to better comprehend ideas.

As educators, teachers of Special Education have the skill to adapt to the various learning styles of their students and provide a learning environment that supports academic success and social integration.

To summarize, Special Education is important in creating an inclusive, diverse, and equitable educational system. It affirms that every child deserves an education tailored to her/his needs and challenges. By investing in Special Education, societies can develop a more compassionate and inclusive community where every person has the opportunity to succeed, and ultimately invest in the future success and welfare of its citizens.
